Études d'OEG
En collaboration avec Dr. Ramon-Cuerto de l'Université de Madrid et Dr. Bunge du « Miami project », le Centre va reproduire une expérience importante qui a montré une grande récupération fonctionnelle après l’implantation d'OEG dans le cordon médullaire blessé d'un modèle animal. Les résultats originaux étaient remarquables ! Pour répliquer cette expérience, le Centre a reçu un financement du « National Institutes of Health » (NIH), lequel est très difficile à obtenir. Les directeurs des études sont Dr. Hans Keirstead et Dr. Oswald Stewart. En plus d’une réplique exacte, l'équipe du Centre poussera les études d'OEG un peu plus loin. Lors d'une deuxième série d'expériences, ils exploreront l'effet des cellules de Schwann + implantation d'OEG chez des animaux avec lésions chroniques. Drs. Stewart et Keirstead pensent que cette technique pourrait tenir sa promesse pour les personnes qui ont été blessées il y a des années, et pas simplement pour ceux avec des lésions très récentes.

Research News from the Reeve-Irvine Research Center
OEG Studies
In collaboration with Dr. Ramon-Cuerto of the University of Madrid and Dr. Bunge of the Miami Project, the Center will be replicating an important experiment that showed tremendous recovery of function after OEG implementation into the injured spinal cord of an animal model. The original results were remarkable! To carry out the replication, the center has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is very difficult to secure. Leading the studies are Dr. Hans Keirstead and Dr. Oswald Stewart. In addition to the exact replication, the Center team will be taking the OEG studies a bit further. In a second series of experiments, they will be exploring the effect of Schwann cell + OEG implantation in animals with long-term injuries. Drs. Stewart and Keirstead believe that this technique may hold promise for people who were injured years ago, and not just for those with very recent injuries.
